  • PRODUCER INFORMATION

We run a family farm, milking around 200 cows, near Stroud, in Gloucestershire.

We produce free range milk from our cows grazed to Pasture Promise standards, which means they enjoy the freedom of the fields for a minimum of 180 days each year.

I (Liz Godsell) am a registered Master Cheesemaker and I am ably assisted by my husband Bryan, our daughters and a small team of local staff, in running the farm and making and selling our cheese.

We keep some Gloucester cattle on the farm alongside our other dairy cows and produce and number of old recipe, traditonal Gloucester cheeses. We have recently installed a mil vending machine on the farm and sell our free range milk direct from the farm gate.

Our commitment to farming in line with Pasture Promise standards, means we farm in a traditional way, with pasture and grazing at the heart of our milk production system. We have committed to environmental shemes and good practices on the farm, to protect the local environment and enhance biodiversity on the farm.

  • PRODUCT DETAILS

Godsells Cheese is a range of hand made cheeses made at Church Farm, in the Gloucestershire village of Leonard Stanley, using milk from our own herd of cows. All our cheeses are made with pasteurised milk and are suitable for vegetarians.

Our range of cheeses include both Double and Single Gloucester. It is a requirement to own some Gloucester Cattle in order to make Single Gloucester. They are a rare breed, much smaller than a Friesian cow, brown/black in colour with a distinctive white stripe which starts half way down their back and goes all the way down their tail.

Single Gloucester Cheese is a lighter and earlier maturing cheese than its big brother Double. Traditionally made using half skimmed milk it has a fresh, sometimes nutty taste, slightly more acidic than Double but very moorish. If eaten with good company and a bottle of wine it soon disappears from the table!

Our other cheeses include Cheddar, soft cheese and Mozzarella.
